By now you know Cary Fukunaga as the director of all of True Detective’s first season, but if you’re itching to see more from this wonderfully talented young filmmaker, look no further than his haunting 2011 adaptation of Jane Eyre. Fukunaga and writer Moira Buffini paint the classic Charlotte Brontë novel as a gothic romance against the foreboding backdrop of the moors, and it’s anchored by a pair of stellar performances from Wasikowska and Fassbender. It’s a different beast than True Detective for sure, but the film is a wonderful showcase of Fukunaga’s range and features a terrific Dario Marianelli score to boot. – Adam Chitwood
